In the context of insider attacks, motives typically include personal, financial, or competitive incentives. Seeking revenge often stems from feelings of dissatisfaction or betrayal within the workplace, and becoming a competitor suggests a drive to undermine an organization for personal gain. Stealing confidential information is a common motive, as insiders often have access to sensitive data that can be misused.

The motive of trying to gain a promotion, however, is less directly associated with typical insider attack motivations. Insiders generally do not engage in harmful activities with the goal of advancing their careers at the expense of their organization. Instead, they might exhibit behavior to gain favor or recognition without resorting to malicious actions. Therefore, while career advancement is a legitimate goal in professional settings, it does not align with the aggressive and damaging intentions that characterize insider attacks.
